The purpose of this video is to display impartially as possible how Sectarian hatred and bigotry created last Saturday’s trouble on Carrick Hill. Moreover the courageous actions concerning local Politician Gerry Kelly intervening as such ensuring this volatile situation from decreasing into full scale rioting. The facts were a group of Loyalist/Orange supporters broke away on a premeditated attack on unoccupied protesting residents’ homes. The Police weren’t prepared for this and would not let the residents back to protect their homes. The Police came across as heavy handed but its also possible they panicked due to a false sense of security passed upon them. They were also following orders. This lead to a confrontation with residents while those attacking homes were able to leave at will. A young 16 yo residents son was arrested and Police didn’t or couldn’t give the boys mother any info on her sons welfare etc.. This enraged People and unless Gerry Kelly took the action he did ,a full-scale riot was inevitable. He got the info needed and accompanied the boys parents to a Police Barracks. This left a very angry community but thankfully no serious rioting. For those who watch TV and don’t know the facts, would it have been better for Gerry Kelly who risked his own safety to do nothing or let a full scale riot develop. The injuries to Police and rioter`s would have been too obvious. Sectarianism is the core problem, past & present here.It was/is used for Political games. Im not making a judgement on Saturday’s events but stating facts regarding Sectarian violence. The protesters were peacefully doing so because of many past physical verbal abuses against their Catholic Church and community. They were protesting asking for respect. The people who are in these Parades are Sectarian bigots who do not have to parade near this area. They claim to have a right as this is their traditional 400 year route. The people who attacked these homes are from the same group but believe its right because of protesting residents. They see the residents as sectarian bigots also by their protesting against Loyalist/Orange Parades. Sectarianism is the core problem, past and present here. Therefore its the Politicians .Parades commission lack of will or power to resolve this difficult situation that are responsible. .Gerry Kelly is a Politician and he may be in for condemnation by others playing Political games. But his actions were courageous by what he prevented. He wasn’t concerned with Political games but responsibility to protecting his community & Police from serious injury. More-over the serious damage to property also .Listen to Mr Dempsey (Resident organiser) here as he says the G8 was gaining such publicity while these violent sectarian clashes weren’t mentioned. I and many others from both communities believe likewise. The G8 was a remarkable event for 6 Counties, Northern Ireland to be honored with, Listening to President Obama`s speeches in praising our peace process etc ,its obvious he was unaware or remained silent as such. This is where the main threat to peace by present decreasing Political negotiations on these Parades issues. It’s a serious problem and its covered up or media censored. The implications from these constant confrontations are major sectarian divisions. The Residents could foresee this happening, but were being dismissed or. This media censorship on these issues, many believe are used for example to possibly misguide Obama etc. Yet the people in these communities are left to face all this.To any who try to bury their heads, dismiss this as (ones as bad as the other) ,wev moved on or whatever, would be better say nothing than , speak as such. This is not a a modern criminal or gang situation. It’s a 400 year old Irish problem that’s intensified over the past 120 yrs. As a result of our recent Trouble its worsening in many areas.. This is not a reflection of common place events here in 6 Counties Northern Ireland. Its happening in certain areas and mainly effects those only. Its not a danger to visitors or anyone to peacefully enjoy this part of Ireland. People have a right to know the “Truth” than be deceived when communities are suffering. This all Politically endorsed Sectarianism escalated in 1968/69 to create the30 yr troubles. Nobody wants any risk of this happening on even a smaller scale.These events & other injustices are breeding ground for young people, being recruited into Paramilitaries etc Again this is not meant as a finger pointing episode at either group/community. Its to create awareness to forgotten or censored community issues. We all have or know the individual situations and whose is responsible for trouble on that day. This video etc is create awareness at the Politicians ,Parades commission`s lack of resolve on all these contentious areas. Maybe there is more being done within the Political circles but it doesn’t seem as such. With due respect to Gerry Kelly MLA Sinn Fein can be seen here risking his own safety for that of the local residents non-confrontation concern. In He did similar in 2004 when he calmed a situation involving some Soldiers who were being overcome by an angry crowd. These Soldiers were very likely to have opened fire if it weren’t for Gerry Kelly`s intervention. Whether or not Gerry Kelly`s political Party or their aims appeal ,is irrelevant as his actions for peaceful non-confrontation situations are most important here. Both the Loyalist /Orange bands and walkers are also victims by their indoctrinated mind-sets . These issues are very important to me , as it was through this sectarianism that lead many of my generation on a particular wrong path in various ways. There are very possible ways of decreasing these confrontations and its through dialogue where old outdated mind-sets’ can be challenged, discussed, etc enabling an understanding ,thus accommodating mutual respect. Respect and understanding creates a constructive safeguard, of restraint. This then establishes a confidence leading to integrity being foremost in all discussions. People coming from a position of Integrity cannot be undermined and take decisive actions benefiting all concerned. JoeGl…
